Social constructivism is a theory of learning based on the idea that meaning is constructed during social encounters. According to Vygotsky, who is considered as one of the founders of social constructivism, learning takes place while individuals interact with each other. During their interactive learning and co-operative creation process students acquire reasoning skills, test their ideas, develop high level cognitive skills (Bloom’s Taxonomy) and improve their social and collaborative skills. The theory also emphasizes the importance of interaction between learners and practitioners.
