AUTHORING TOOL |
Software, application or program used by trainers and instructional designers to create e-learning courseware. These tools enable trainers to integrate a wide range of media (e.g. text, graphics, audio, video) to create interactive custom training content and to produce attractive and useful graphic applications. Authoring tools allow non-programmers to easily create multimedia content and most of them also support a scripting language, which can be used for more sophisticated applications. Types of authoring tools include instructionally-focused authoring tools, Web authoring and programming tools, template-focused authoring tools, knowledge capture systems, and text and file creation tools. They enable the creation of a final application by linking objects together (e.g. a paragraph of text to an illustration), defining the correlation between them, and sequencing them in an appropriate order. These tools are nowadays increasingly used also by organizations which want to reduce their training cost and produce in-house tailored training. [1]
According to a recent study by the eLearning Guild (2011)[2] the easiest tools to use are Articulate Presenter, Adobe Presenter and Raptivity, while the most effective ones are Adobe Captivate and Adobe Connect. See also: e-learning |
