It is the application of knowledge resulting from the development of abilities through formal and informal training, qualifications and practical experience. Some key skills are [1]:
Skills Content
Communication Speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
Information Communication Technology Finding, exploring, developing and presenting information including text, images and numbers.
Working with others Includes process and interpersonal skills to support working cooperatively with others to achieve shared objectives, work cooperatively and have regard for others.
Improving own learning and performance Developing independent learning which is clearly focused on what the goal is, to achieve and work towards targets that will improve the quality of the learning and performance.
Problem solving Ability to solve problems, for the purpose of working towards their solution and learning from this process.
