Term2.png TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING (TVET)

Education or training activities oriented to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to perform a job, an occupation, or a professional activity. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) refers to deliberate interventions to bring about learning which would make people more productive (or simply adequately productive) in designated areas of activity.

TVET will also apply to other forms of education (which are not unique to TVET), e.g. expert knowledge, skills development, insights and mindsets which are considered to be generally valuable for learners of many areas of economic activity.

The distinctive objective and aim, which sets TVET apart from other forms of education and training, is the “work productivity”, as the only form of education which matters for performance in the workplace (looking on contents, methods and changes that take place within the production and world of work).[1] Vocational training includes apprenticeships, as well as continuing professional development, closely linked to lifelong learning. [2]

Promising Practices in TVET database This UNESCO collection of 'promising practices' draws upon three sources of information, namely case studies and related articles published by the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre, promising practices that were presented during the Third TVET Congress (Shanghai, 14-16 May 2012), and the global trends and issues in TVET that were identified for the UNESCO World TVET report.

UNESCO-UNEVOC maintains a publications programme that aims to contribute to the international debate on key aspects of education for the world of work.

This collection only covers the TVET priority subject areas which are: foundation courses (english, maths, science including communication, research and study skills), emergency response, energy efficiency, tourism, health, ICT and transportation.
